01 / The problem

A small problem worth solving.

Simple image editing often asks people to upload private images or create an account. ClearCut makes background removal available directly in the browser.

02 / The approach

Make the useful part easier.

Run the model on the device, provide a focused editing workspace, and let the user export a full-resolution result.

Images are processed in the browser with ONNX and WebAssembly. Editing and export sit alongside background removal, so the user can finish the task in one place.

03 / Things to explore

The learning behind the product.

A useful discussion of browser performance, privacy by design, and making a complex tool feel simple.

  • What should happen while the model is loading?
  • How does a larger image affect memory and processing?
  • How do you communicate that an image stays on the device?

Discussion prompts for learners, not a claim about measured project outcomes.
